What's new?

Here's hoping 2017 will be the start of something new!
After my Arts Council application was turned down last year I have re-applied. It was so close and yet so far!! I have taken notice of their feedback, readjusted time scales, given additional information and got some amazing photos of my work taken.
A great volunteer for the National Trust house Lower Brockhampton, Herefordshire very kindly took photos of my Coat of Many Memories in some of the rooms.

Remember the jacket I made for my City and Guilds?
Well, the idea for my Arts Council application is to reproduce historical costumes relating to the history of the house using the same techniques and fabrics. The cotton organza allows items to be trapped into the fabric and yet still show through. This will represent the many layers of memories embedded in the history of the house.
I have lots more interesting techniques which I hope to explore and develop but I don't want to give too much away at this stage!
Let's hope this application is successful as I'd love to really establish myself as a textile artist.
I'm also working on Cloths of Memories. They are made from naturally dyed and eco-printed cloth and incorporates slow stitching which I never thought I would enjoy so much.
More of these beautiful cloths in my next blog.
